BACKGROUNDS - "Improving productive clusters accessibility to global market"
The project aims to the improvement of the supply chain, by using innovative IT tools, and the increase of economic and port activities. The Partners have produced a GIS tool which allows modelling various routes for freight transport among different origins and destinations at European level. The tool includes also “macro corridors concept” on transportation planning and a database of foreign trade and port activities of the involved regions. This system has been presented during its implementation to the relevant stakeholder of the territories involved in the project achieving large interest by public and private stakeholders. In fact, the most of information have been provided by the stakeholders (in particular port authorities, shipping agencies, etc.). The Partners have organized local seminars - workshops, surveys and interviews for involving the stakeholders that during these occasions have given lots of interesting inputs to the project, with particular reference to the local events in which they have shown the GIS tool applications.
TRANSit - "TRANSport Intermodal Transit"
The project aims to the improvement of the supply chain by using innovative IT tools. The Partners have produced a GIS tool to model various routes for freight transport among different origins and destinations at European level, relating to modal split, cargo type, costs and emissions. During the project life, the Partners have involved public and private stakeholders which have given some interesting feedback about the project issues, with particular reference to the global approach in order to support the transition to combined transport, in terms of infrastructures, legislation, service provision, transport market, and environment. Moreover, some stakeholders have expressed their interest to use the tool if a trustworthy entity were able to update data and privacy.
PORTA - "PORTs as a gateway for Access inner regions"
The project aims to increase economic and port activities supporting the development of a ports observatory. In particular, the project has created a database of industrial activities, economic issues and port activities related to the involved regions and also a set of indicators. Positive feedbacks have come from the Port Community stakeholders.
TERCONMED - "Container terminals as a key element in the Mediterranean short sea shipping"
The project aims to increase economic and port activities supporting the development of a ports observatory. The project has produced a database on MED container terminals and SSS lines. In particular, it is related to container terminal activities, of different ports of the involved regions, and to SSS lines linking the concerned ports. The stakeholders that have participated to the project activities have provided and were interested in data collected by the project, such as contact data, annual data, railways, infrastructures, regular lines and other information provides by terminal operators. The capitalization of the results should consider the classification of the container terminals involved in the project from a technical and operational point of view (infrastructure, machinery operating time).
SECUR MED PLUS - "Stratégies partagées et actions pour renforcer la sécurité dans les secteurs maritime et de la logistique en Méditerranée"
The project aims to optimise maritime risk prevention and safety tools developing a maritime observatory. It has strengthen the network constituted during SECUR MED project (Interreg III B 2000 – 2006), creating two High Level Roundtables of experts with the concrete involvement of Maritime Authorities, the New RECRIS system, including a database on accidents at sea, legislation, waste management, passengers and goods traffic and ports. Moreover, the project has faced the theme of the social responsibility of port, transport and logistics enterprises and has elaborated a Manual with indicators and a Guidelines in this field. The public and private stakeholders that have participated to the project activities are interested in its results. In particular, the regional Directions of the Italian Coastguards are interested in waste management application and the Port Authorities have cooperated to create local events for promoting the project outcomes about the social responsibility of port, transport and logistics enterprises.
MEMO - "Mediterranean Electronic Marine Highways Observatory"
The project aims to optimise maritime risk prevention and safety tools developing a maritime observatory on safety and security related aspects. Specifically, the project has focused on mitigating maritime risks, improving maritime safety and promoting sustainable territorial development. The project Partners have created a monitoring tool, MEMH Observatory (databases and modules on maritime safety), that represents a network of vessels monitoring systems in areas close to ports. Lots of public and private stakeholders have been involved in the project and sensitized about the measures in the field of maritime safety. In particular, other Greek ports are interested to follow best practices developed in the project and participate in capitalization activities of the project results. MEMO has developed strategic alliances with other MED Partners and ports for ongoing projects and local/national /international networks. Finally, the project has received positive feedback from some Greek Port Community stakeholders.
LOSAMEDCHEM - "How could the logistics and the safety of the transports of chemicals be improved in the Mediterranean"
The project aims to optimise maritime risk prevention and safety tools developing a maritime observatory on safety and security related aspects. The project Partners have implemented a database on chemical transport accidents and feasibility studies for improving chemical and dangerous goods transportation. Public and private stakeholders have been involved within the project: a survey has been sent to chemical companies and LOSAMEDCHEM results have been presented to Partners’ national and regional authorities responsible for transport and infrastructures. The positive feedbacks received let the partners hope in a concrete continuation of the actions proposed with other financing tools to implement the project results. Moreover, the project has established a new network called Chemical Logistics Special Interest Group (CHELO-SIG) to assure the continuation of the project activities and establish a base of relationship and common work for elaborating and implementing new initiatives and projects in the field of transportation of chemicals. Other relevant connections with sector networks and associations (ECRN, CHEMLOG project association, etc.) could be realised in the future.
Starting from the common vision of eleven partners involved in the Project, OPTIMIZEMED aims to capitalize the experience gained in the different domains and the most relevant results achieved in the previous seven MED projects, BACKGROUNDS, TRANSit, PORTA, TERCONMED, SECUR MED PLUS, MEMO and LOSAMEDCHEM, in order to develop a “closer”, “smarter” and “greener” governance of the MED area and to introduce innovative and renewed elements in daily operations of they key actors and players in transport & supply chain.
Through the “intelligent” compilation and the “smart” fertilization of the previous results, it will be possible to develop a new integrated and efficient approach, an innovative IT tool, able to increase the intermodal transport in the Mediterranean Area: the OPTIMIZEMED e-platform. The tool will be able to improve maritime and intermodal transport with positive benefits on the supply chain, the maritime safety and the environment optimizing the stakeholders activities in a multilevel way, such as policy making, operations and management.
In a few words the OPTIMIZEMED e-platform aims to represent the natural and missing step able to join the efforts made within the seven MED projects and, as a result, the core area of OPTIMIZEMED is expected to become an umbrella type project with direct and indirect benefits at regional, national and European level in terms of competitiveness and transport sustainability.
Thereby a wide group of public and private stakeholders is potentially eligible to benefit from its results and to be involved in the capitalization activities that will be developed during the project.
In this framework, the “Capitalization object” is the promotion of the ongoing results and its “subjects” are all the targeted public and private stakeholders that play an important role within the project domains.
In order to reach these objectives, the Project have been organized in three main Work Packages:
